Florida paycheck taxes in 2026
Florida has no state income tax on wages, so only federal income tax, Social Security and Medicare come out of your paycheck.
- Florida's constitution bans a personal income tax.
- There are no state payroll deductions for employees, so your take-home pay depends only on federal taxes and the deductions you choose.
Because there is no state income tax, workers in Florida usually take home more than workers with the same salary in states like California or New York.

What Florida workers pay instead of income tax
The Florida Department of Revenue is plain about it: the state does not impose a personal income tax, so individuals have no state income tax return to file. There is no state tax on an individual's capital gains either, and no inheritance or gift tax.
That doesn't mean Florida has no taxes. You pay sales tax when you spend, and homeowners pay yearly property tax, collected by the county. If you're comparing a job offer in Florida with one in a state that taxes wages, set the extra take-home pay on this page against your likely housing costs.
- Sales tax is 6% statewide. Most counties add a surtax of 0.5% to 2.5%, usually on only the first $5,000 of a single item.
- The homestead exemption can take up to $50,000 off the taxable value of your permanent home. The first $25,000 applies to all property taxes and the second only to non-school taxes.
- Homestead status also brings the Save Our Homes cap, which limits how fast your home's assessed value can rise each year.
